West-end boy . . .

The main issue I have with with West-End clubs is the reason people are there. I used to LURVE it. When I first hit London, they were great: Glitz, Glam & there WERE good nights ::: but now . . . party-goers go to TRY and look COOOOOL, DJs think it's acceptable to MiX pony tracks like SH*T. The atmosphere feels soul-less and people are dancing to get noticed; not because they f*cking LOVE IT! There's no passion. . . . Perhaps it has always been like that and I was all Rose-Tinted glasses upped, but anyways . . .

. . . This leads me onto one of the few DJs who gets it. DJ Dan Browne has been hitting the West End scene for over the last 5 years - starting back with Hip-Hop playing NYT and following this with the likes of Pangaea, China White, Pascha, Tamangang, Mamalanji, Kensington Roof Gardens, Cafe de Paris and more . . . this is either mighty ImPressive or Sell-Out; depending on your apparent pre-conceptions, but either way - give a guy a CHANCE and check out his podcast : DJ Dan Browne
There is something for everyone; HIP-HOP : ROCK : M*SH UP : ELECTRO : GRIME : on & on & on . . . . His mixing; imPECCABLE, track selection; TASTY, and most importantly he gives a SH*T & tries new things; CHECK::::

A cheeky little mash-up of Obama's inauguration speech backed by the EPIC 'Adagio for Strings' by the one & only DJ Tiesto.

As always . . . ENJOY x

*** DJ Dan Browne currently plays ***
::: Friday Night - Cafe de Paris :::
::: Saturday Night - Taman Gang :::
. . . so if you're in London town; check him out . . .

* * * little brain tickla * * *

Fancy something a little more light-hearted? Well step right up and take a sneak peak at these . . .

. . . don't get me wrong, you have to be in the right frame of mind; or ~DIMENSION~ for this but when you are it is great. Love Caboose & Group DYNAMIC are just great . . . self genre'd as 'psychadelic-breakbeat' that gives you an idea . . . think hints of David Bowie, droplets of electronic keyboard, SEGA soundFX, synth (LOTS OF SYNTH) and haunting, yet sweet, girly vocals . . . "every HISS, will remind me of thisssss."

. . . chilllllllllll. Self proclaimed; 'New Wave / Trance / Shoegaze' these guys' original material is not exactly right up my street . . . but, this is a big BUT. . . . check out some of their remixed material;
Hey You Guys (The Juan MacLean remix) has you strutting and jerking from beat numero UNO! . . . The drop into some distorted melting pot of racing cars and driving drum rhythm . . . maybe even a little toned-down, old skool, (dare i say it) Prodigy!?!?

Also . . . Have a nosey around for the following - IT IS NOT ON THEIR MYsPACE - well I couldn't find it!;
Dancers(Russ Chimes VS Anoraak Remix - a real, REAL treat. Genius throw back track - again that David Bowie vocal feel, maybe even Pet Shop Boys. Throw in a bit of pseudo-Axel F, and plenty of SYNTH! * * * * Woooooo! x

Monday 20 April 2009

Dolby-Digital? . . . . . . Naaaah!!! . . . . . . DOLBY-ANOL, fooooool!?!

The only link this Glaswegian M*SH UP crew have with the reputable audio suppliers is that they will tear your Surround Sound a preverbial new one!

DOLBY-ANOL delight in taking our pre-conceptions of classic tracks and throwing them out of the window; taking a rock anthem and giving it some eLeCTRo SHoCK THeRaPY! Their Kings of Leon remix does just that, luring you into a false sense of security; that's right, you know the words, you're having a magic time, singing along . . . . and then . . . . out of NO-where you get the downright dirtiest, wobbliest bass drop and it's, 'bye, bye dancefloor . . . Hello, Stars!'

If you are yet to get your little mitts on any of there other tracks, have a snoop around and GET IT SORTED! . . . 'We DON'T rock' is decidedly tasty . . . think transformers, but in this episode; Deceptikonz KICK ASS!!!!!

With an new upcoming EP, you should not be anything less than WETTING yourself with anticipation and pure FeaR!?!?!

Check out their mySpace and treat yourself to some cheeky Anol!?!

His infamous bootlegs compile classic tunes, delightful piano tinkles, enlightened guitar rifts and drops that through you off a cliff with no rope . . . BYE BYE!!!

Pull no PUNCHES . . . .

Bass . . . . naughty, downright dirrrrty BASS is what has always tickled my fancy. . . . . from Love Island anthems, to LA gangsta rap, to UK GRIME, to a grungy basement out EAST. Whether it's been overlaid with comical lyrics, filthy distorted interference or some naughty little electro pulse that tickles your brain into the early hours, bass is what makes me tick, it keeps me going, it drags my sorry ASS through the early hours and lures me back time after time.

Having put my red shoes on and danced my way through all that London Town has to offer, I think I have the right to offer the slightest of opinion on what is and isn't happening, who is kicking and who is SH*T!?! What I offer is a simple opinion, take it as you will, but certainly comment. I like music, that doesn't mean I like yours, nor does it mean you like mine, but opinions make us all tick . . . . so get srcibblin'.
